Welcome to the 2025 Society of South African Geographers’ student conference hosted by the Department of Geography, Environmental Management & Energy Studies at the University of Johannesburg. The aim of the conference is to bring together students and scholars from all Geography and Environmental disciplines to foster multi-disciplinary exchange.

Date: 3–5 September 2025
Venue: Auckland Park Campus of the University of Johannesburg (APK Campus UJ), Kingsway Road, Auckland Park, Johannesburg.

Costs

• SSAG members: R300
• Non-members: R500
• Online: Free

Fees are only payable upon abstract acceptance and registration.

Registration opens after the abstract submission period ends.

Abstract Guidelines

Length: Max 300 words

Title: Use sentence case, avoid abbreviations, and make it concise and clear.

Structure:

• Introduction/Background: Why is the research important?
• Purpose: Objectives of the research
• Methods: Data collection and methodology
• Results: Key findings
• Conclusion: Summary and implications

The Four Cs of Abstract Writing:

• Completeness – the abstract covers the major parts of the research/study/project.
• Conciseness – the abstract contains no excess words or unnecessary information.
• Clarity – the abstract is easily read, well organised and without too much jargon.
• Cohesion – the different parts of the abstract should be linked to get logical and coherent flow.
